I love how all the republicans are going after Obama for not being able to fix the economy and health care fast enough. The truth of the matter is that the economy has a lot more problems going against it than people realize. Economics is a funny subject as there is so much going on, some of which I don't understand, but I can see that one of the bigger issues isn't really something anyone, or any political party can solve. This issue is human nature, this issue is greed. People are greedy. I wish I could say I wasn't but there are times when I am greedy as well. The thing is is that there are so many big companies want more profits. They aren't happy making 1 billion dollars...they want to make 5 billion.
This issue is foremost in the whole health care debate. The health care system as it is now is broken. Private insurance companies like Blue Cross, Aetna are all in the business to make money. That in itself is not so much a problem as they're a business and making money is what they are supposed to do. The problem that arises from this is that these insurance companies care so much about their shareholders and their bottom line that they'll screw over anyone who gets in their way. People are paying hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a year into their health insurance plan to protect themselves should something happen and they need medical attention. This IS what health insurance is supposed to do, be there to help cover the costs of health care, which as everyone knows is EXPENSIVE. What happens though is that some of these same people who are constantly paying into their health plan, unfortunately develop cancer or some other serious medical condition, and too many times, the insurance companies go through the paperwork and find ANY and ALL loopholes they can find (that they built into it intentionally) to drop them from coverage so that they won't lose money on them. That leaves people high and dry and struggling to make ends meet so that they can get the treatment they need to LIVE. It shows that their bottom line is more important than people's lives --- GREED.
This is insurance, health insurance companies need to realize that the risk of someone really needing coverage to the point of costing the health insurance companies money can and does happen. It's part of the business and they should have realized that before jumping in. Besides, there are also plenty of people pouring money into the company's pockets that are healthy and may hardly use their plan in which case the insurance companies are making a killing.
That is what needs to be fixed in any health care overhaul. Keep the insurance companies honest and competitive and prevent them from using the loopholes to hurt their customers and steal the customer's money. Because right now, if you're dropped or don't like your service, well, you don't have many options, and the options you do have are likely significantly more expensive. A government public option could potentially help this out and give Americans another place to go for health insurance. This would force the insurance companies to bring down costs and provide better service and coverage if they want to keep customers. Because remember...it is a public OPTION. If you would want to go the government route, you'd be welcome to. But if you'd want to remain with your private insurance, you'd be welcome to do that too.
And don't get me started about the politicians going against the health care legislation...the majority of them are likely being paid off by the health insurance lobbyists to go against it. Just another example of how our representatives are serving us, the American People Greedy Corporations and their wallets. You can always just go with the Republican Health Plan:
Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.
