Darker Nemesis
How Many People Will Actually Read This?
Posted July 01, 2008 5:38pm in tech

I've gotten very involved with the Mixx site of late, I find it to be a fun site with an amazing community. One thing that I have started to notice is that the occasional spam story gets on, which I actually think is partially good...but not in the way you're thinking. I'm thinking that maybe it shows that Mixx is starting to really make it into the spotlight which is something I would love to see happen.

the point I'm really trying to make is that I've been seeing a few of these stories make it to popular status. I'm sure some of the people who voted for them were spambots themselves, but I have seen some votes in the up direction from seemingly legitimate Mixxers (and Mixxers I have seen around for some time, but I won't name names, you know who you are). This by far should not be the case! I'm sure many others have touched on this, and I know they have, but blind voting does NOTHING to help the Mixx Community. Not to say you should abandon your friends or not vote up their submissions, but read, look at, or watch their submission, don't just vote it up, and especially don't blind vote other stories either. If the title says "how to get free poker chips in online poker", it's probably spam and should be voted down and reported. We all want better quality submissions, so don't just blind vote.

I mean I write this blog to get feedback, to share ideas, to hear other people's opinions, to learn new things, pretty much to make conversation. As much as I would love the votes, I would like feedback more.

I hate going on these rants, so I'm gonna stop now

Maybe what we need to start doing IS naming names. Call them out, embarrass them for the sake of bettering the community. I have some friends on mixx who are good quality users, but consistenly blind vote my stories. I'm looking at you, MarkCarras! Man, you're awesome, but quit blind-voting my stories.

Although, in Mark's defense, I will say that there's a difference between bling voting a friend's stories and random blind voting everything, including spam. When a person is a friend, especially a super awesome friend like me who always submits EXCELLENT content, you have a certain level of trust that the content is relatively high quality. For the people who blind vote poker-chip spam, well, there's no excuse or defense for that.

Shit, you should know how much I vehemently hate blind-voting, fom my many curse-filled rants on the subject in the forum. I agree with Julie. The time to name names is now!

You're completely right. F*k the blind. They shouldn't be allowed to vote! They can't even see the damn ballot! WTF!

@Greg lol I'm sure one of the other Mixxers would be more than willing to read it to you :-)

@HonestApe @Calinazaret

Naming names might be a little too far at this point, if we constantly see them voting up spam consistently, maybe then, but I think that naming names would be a little counter-productive
